Part 1 -The Kelsey Smith Abduction & Murder Case Study– The Abduction of Kelsey Smith A can’t miss three-part HawkTalk series about the heart-wrenching investigation of the abduction and murder of 18-year old Kelsey Smith: The investigation and its long-term impact on Law Enforcement.

Our guest presenter is none other than Greg Smith, Kelsey’s father, a grieving parent and law enforcement professional turned legislator and advocate who’s on a life-long mission to ensure this NEVER happens again to another parent or law enforcement agency. In 2007, Greg’s 18-year-old daughter, Kelsey, was abducted by a stranger outside of a busy department store in Kansas and driven away and left in a wooded area where she was murdered. The case made national news and led to the start of the Kelsey Smith Foundation® and the Kelsey Smith Act - A law that allows law enforcement immediate access to the location of a wireless device when a person is believed to be in danger of serious bodily harm or death. As of Sept. 2020, the law has been passed in 27 states and is currently in review by the U.S. Congress. Greg served in the United States Navy and in law enforcement in South Carolina, Missouri, and Kansas. He served 2 terms in the Kansas Legislature. Greg has returned to law enforcement and is currently a Special Deputy with the Johnson County (KS) Sheriff’s Office.
